The Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE) supports a wide range of crop enterprises, recognizing their vital role in ensuring food security, generating income, and driving Uganda’s agricultural growth. Our Crop Sector Programs are designed to improve productivity, quality, and market access for both staple and cash crops across the country.
Focus Areas
1. Food Security Crops
We work with farmers to increase the production and quality of staple crops such as maize, beans, cassava, rice, millet, and sweet potatoes. These efforts ensure that households and communities have reliable access to nutritious food while generating surplus for market sales.
2. Cash and Export Crops
UNFFE promotes the growth and competitiveness of key cash crops, including coffee, cotton, tea, cocoa, sugarcane, and horticultural products. We provide training on best agronomic practices, value addition, and compliance with export quality standards.
3. Emerging and High-Value Crops
We support diversification into high-value crops such as spices, oilseeds, fruits, and vegetables—opening up new income streams for farmers and expanding Uganda’s agricultural portfolio in local and international markets.
Program Activities
Training & Extension: Providing farmers with skills in climate-smart farming, pest and disease control, and soil fertility management.
Post-Harvest Handling: Reducing losses and improving storage, packaging, and transportation of produce.
Market Linkages: Connecting farmers to buyers, processors, and exporters through contract farming and trade fairs.
Research & Innovation: Introducing improved seed varieties and farming technologies to boost yields.
Policy Advocacy: Working to ensure favorable policies for input access, pricing, and export promotion.
Through our Crop Sector Programs, UNFFE is helping farmers move beyond subsistence to profitable, sustainable crop production that feeds the nation and competes globally.
