Governance (NEC and Secretariat)
Governance
The Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE) is guided by a robust governance structure designed to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective representation of farmers’ interests across the country.
National Executive Committee (NEC)
The NEC is the highest decision-making body of UNFFE between Annual General Meetings. It is elected by members and represents farmers from all regions of Uganda. The NEC provides strategic oversight, sets organizational priorities, and ensures that the Federation remains true to its mandate.
Key Responsibilities of the NEC:
Formulating policies and strategic plans for the Federation.
Overseeing implementation of resolutions from the Annual General Meeting.
Representing the interests of farmers at national, regional, and international levels.
Ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of resources.
The NEC is composed of the President, Vice Presidents (representing different regions), the Treasurer, and other elected members, with support from technical committees on specific thematic areas.
The Secretariat
The Secretariat is the operational arm of UNFFE, responsible for implementing programs, projects, and activities on behalf of the members. Headed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Secretariat is staffed with professionals in agriculture, finance, policy, communications, and development.
Key Functions of the Secretariat:
Coordinating and executing the daily operations of the Federation.
Managing partnerships, projects, and resource mobilization.
Providing technical support and advisory services to member organizations.
Facilitating farmer capacity building, market linkages, and advocacy campaigns.
Monitoring and evaluating the impact of UNFFE’s interventions.
The NEC provides strategic leadership, while the Secretariat ensures effective execution—together forming a governance system that is accountable to farmers and responsive to their needs.
